Prince Alfred's Elephant is a children's book by New Zealand author, Margaret Coldham, first published in 2015. The story is based on real happenings taken from newspaper reports of the time and tells the story of the first elephant to arrive in Auckland, New Zealand. The story follows two boys, Wally and Harry, during Christmas of 1870 in Auckland, as well as their interactions with Tom, an Asian elephant which was gifted to Prince Alfred, who passed through Auckland on his return to England.
